Gather up all the things you’ve been through in your life
and toss them into a big pile.
Now, sort through the pile and throw out all the things that make you sad.
What are you left with?
You’re left with a pile of happy.
That sounds really good. Right? But is it? Really?
You can pick and choose your college major.
You can pick and choose the color of your shirt.
You can pick and choose the person you’re going to date or the one you will marry,
but you can’t pick and choose life moments, after the fact.
That’s a good thing because…
all the things in your happy pile do not make you, YOU.
The blurry-eyed-tears-of-joy things in your life
do not make up the WHOLE of who you are.
Life is one BIG pile.
And the truth is…
You’re good, but you’re not all good.
You can be bad, but you’re not all bad.
Try not to pick and choose the things in your life
you think deserve to stay.
Just jump into the BIG pile and throw all the “things” you are
and all the “things” you’ve been through into the air of gratitude.
Celebrate every “thing” about the life of the ONE-and-ONLY YOU.
Our trials, our sorrows, and our grieves develop us.
